Unemployment Drops Again, in Some Cases, in a Big Way
Local Unemployment rates are at some of the lowest levels they've been at in years.

That's according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, who says the Galesburg-area Unemployment average -- combining numbers from both Knox and Warren Counties -- sits at 7.6% as of September. That's a drop from 8.5% a year ago, and they say the last time the level was that low was September of 2008.

In the year over year period, non-farm payroll employment rose by about 150 jobs, with gains as well in construction, financial activities, and other jobs.

Locally, Knox County's unemployment average for September is at 7.8% -- down 7/10th from the month before.

In Galesburg alone, the average sits at 8.1% for September, down .6%.

The Warren County average is at 6.9%, declining a whopping 1.3%.

Other area counties took significant drops as well. One example: Henderson County, which also dropped 1.3 points to 6.8%.

The September figures, the state cautions, are not seasonally-adjusted.
