Overpass Offically Opens
Local, state, and federal officials have gotten together to celebrate a big project being completed in Galesburg, as well as the local lawmaker the city claims had a lot to do with making it happen.

The new 16-million dollar West Main Street Overpass opened to the public today after a ribbon was cut. The overpass is being named after State Representative Don Moffitt, who is being credited with helping secure nearly 15-million dollars of the total cost through the state's capital construction program.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe had an obvious role in the project, and terminal superintendent John Abrahamson says that role is crucial to the company's local success.

"We love the people, we love the jobs that we provide to Galesburg and the surrounding communities and it's not just Galesburg that's impacted by these grade crossings right. We have communities surrounding Galesburg that come to Galesburg and enjoy the benefits that we have here in this great town."

The railroad contributed about 806-thousand dollars to the first grade separation alone, according to city records.

Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider said it was one of a number of grade separation announcements being made state-wide this week, and that every time such an announcement is made, it's helping make a community safer.
