Golf Package Put On Back Burner
A proposed Golf weekend package by the tourism council has officially been canceled after learning a tour operator in Chicago was offering a similar package the following weekend in Galesburg.

The idea was to offer a weekend golf package to golf enthusiast in the Chicago area the opportunity to play courses in Galesburg.

Director of Tourism Judy Gunenseth told the Tourism board even though they've canceled this particular event she believes they are headed in the right direction.

'We do feel like that these types of events is what we want to do because we want to keep the hotels full not just for the major events but we want to pull people in on weekends where there's not something major going on. And so that's how you keep your hotels busy. And so we do want to help facilitate other activities such as this."

Gunenseth says the Tourism Council will try this event again next year and are looking into working with the tour operator from Chicago to see if they can attract people to the event.
