Kroll Runs for Galesburg Treasurer, Speaks With WGIL
POSTED 3:30pm, UPDATED 6:25pm 11/12/08 A Galesburg business owner officially announces his bid to run for Galesburg treasurer. Mike Kroll has announced his candidacy to run for the city position being held by Marv Dahlberg.

Kroll has been a small business owner since 1997 who operates a computer repair shop in Galesburg, who's also a contributor to weekly newspaper "The Zephyr."

Kroll tells WGIL he's running for an office that, up to now, has been invisible, and wants to see that changed. "As important as city finances are today, I think it's important that we have a City Treasurer who takes an active role in participating, by putting out regular reports on the city's financial condition, and making sure that the citizens and taxpayers are properly informed as well as the elected officials," Kroll said.

Kroll says he understands how the struggling economy has affected small business owners and taxpayers, and says he has witnessed how disengaged he claims the city often is from residents and taxpayers with regard to city finances.

Kroll says he has been frustrated in the past "often uncooperative attitude and delays typically encountered whenever city financial information is requested."

The Galesburg elections office says that Kroll and Dalhberg are the only two to have taken out a petition to run for the office in the April election.
