| Health Department's New Addition a Success |
The newest addition to the Knox County Health Department has opened for business -- an addition, the Health Department's head says, was sorely needed. An open house was held prior to Thursday night's County Board of Health meeting touting the new addition, primarily to give more space to the department's new Dental Clinic. Knox County Public Health Administrator Greg Chance says the project, totaling just over $1-million, was done on time and within budget, even with a couple changes made during construction. Chance says the task now is to determine how it can better serve the growing number of patients utilizing the clinic.
"At some point in time, probably after the holidays, we'll evaluate our appointment scheduling, protocol, see if we can expand that once we get our new assistant on board and trained, see if we can expand that. Obviously our desire is to still continue to meet the needs of our children, but also hopefully begin to see more adults, and that's what our challenge is."
Chance says as it stands right now, the dental clinic sees primarily children, with some appointments left open during the day adults on an emergency basis. He says one positive of having the dental clinic open, both Galesburg hospitals have told him the number of visits to their emergency rooms for oral health issues have gone down. The Board of Health, among other items, also formally approved 3% cost of living salary adjustments for all department staff, raises already built into the Health Department's budget for the coming fiscal year. |
