How to Become a "High Performance Organization"
Martin Carver, president of MG Consulting, LLC. and former CEO of Bandag, Inc., will be giving a presentation on how to become a high performance organization on Monday, Nov. 24, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Best Western Prairie Inn in Galesburg.

Carver will be sharing his journey of how he was able to turn Bandag, Inc., an Iowa-based company that provided retreading materials, equipment and tire management services, into a relationship based, scientifically oriented, learning organization. He will share his belief that by creating an environment where people flourish, contributing from both their hearts and minds, they will take good care of the customer, which in turn, will yield financial success in the market.

"People in organizations are too frequently focused on short term results, and that can be very distracting to achieving long term success," said Carver. "Today there is so much pressure on getting results in a very short time and, as a result, organizations make changes that are in the long term damaging to the accomplishment of a powerful vision for that organization."

Some aspects Carver will speak about include: achieving superior financial results over the long term, becoming an organization that learns faster than its peers, and developing people passionate about the organizational mission.

"Often times, we also look at metrics which are easy to attain, but may not be the best indicators of long term success in an organization. For example, in business, we look at profits or cash flow as the best indicator of success, but the real metrics for success should be customer delight, or employees who are engaged and passionate about the mission of the organization," said Carver.

Financial World magazine named Carver CEO of the Year in the rubber & plastics industry in 1986, and in 1989 he was named CEO of the Decade in the broader category of the chemicals industry.

This event is $25 to attend and is co-sponsored by Carl Sandburg College and the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce. To register for the event, please call (309) 345-3501.
