Galesburg Aldermen to Talk Budget, Public Hearings Scheduled
The City of Galesburg will get its first official opportunity to hear from citizens on the budget for the coming fiscal year.

The Galesburg City Council will hold public hearings Monday night on both the city and township budgets for F-Y 2009, which coincides with the calendar year.

City Manager Dane Bragg has described the budget as having minimal growth, due in part because of the uncertain economy.

Bragg says in the $65-million budget, the $23-million in general revenue expenses is balanced.

A budget work session is scheduled for 6 p-m, followed by the public hearing at 7:00.

During the council's regular meeting at 7:30, aldermen will discuss on first reading the city's property tax levy, which is expected to be slightly lower for property owners, but still bring in as much money.

All three meetings will take place in council chambers at Galesburg City Hall, and copies of the budget are available for viewing at City Hall, at the Galesburg Public Library, and on the city's website.
