Electrical Outlet Blamed for Galesburg House Fire
UPDATED: 2:42pm 11/17/08 A residential fire that broke out in a Galesburg home yesterday Sunday over the noon hour is believed to be the result of an electrical problem.

A Galesburg police report says an officer on routine patrol noticed smoke coming from a house at 1411 East North Street around 12:45 p-m and called the fire department.

Authorities say the homeowner, Charles Boydston, wasn't inside the residence when the fire started, but arrived a short time after the fire department was notified. Officials say Boydstun went in the home and rescued a cat.

The fire started in a front room of the home, and investigators believe it may have been caused by a loose wire, a loose plug or a loose connection in an outlet box that a heater was plugged into. Officials say the fire was just inside the front door when fire crews arrived at the residence, and it was extinguished with less than 100 gallons of water.

No injuries are reported. The department remained at the scene for about an hour investigating the fire and ventilating the house. Officials say damage estimates are not available at this time.
