CSC Board Adopts Tentative Tax Levy
Money from the State of Illinois continues to be questionable at best, and that's partially the reason behind officials at Carl Sandburg College asking for more money from property owners this year.

The CSC Board of Trustees Tuesday night approved a tentative 2008 Property Tax Levy of $8.5 million, an increase of a half-million dollars over the 2007 levy request, or, 6.5%.

CSC Chief Financial Officer Lisa Blake says while the amount of money being levied is increasing, the 6.5% doesn't necessarily equate to much higher property tax bills. "This should be considered our high water mark of probability, as it does assume a four percent overeall growth in the tax base," Blake said. "This is designed to be an amount which will ensure full access to our established permissive rates. The rate, overall, is anticipated to remain constant, at 62.05 cents per $100 of EAV (Equalized Assessed Value)."

Blake says property values across the 10-county CSC district have, on average, have increased 1 1/3% every year for the last 26-years, and that's taking into account a couple of years during that period of very steep declines. She says she expects property values to be up this year, with most of the credit being given to land in Knox, Warren, and McDonough Counties.

A Truth in Taxation Hearing will be held December 18th at 6:45 pm, and final approval will come during the CSC Board's meeting also that night.
