Legislature Passes Insurance Coverage for Autism Disorders
Health insurance in Illinois would have to cover the diagnosis, treatment, and therapy for autism spectrum disorders, under a bill which has passed the Illinois House and Senate.

Like many bills this year, the measure was stuck in political infighting over rule-making technicalities. The House sponsor, State Rep. Karen May (D-Highland Park), says she asked Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) to help work out a compromise.

The bill calls for coverage up to a child’s age 21 and up to $36,000 a year.

S.B. 934 has passed the House 109-0 and the Senate 45-6, and now goes to the governor.
