Weekly Yard Waste Collection in Galesburg Ends Sunday
Galesburg's weekly yard waste collection program is about to end for another year.

Collection of yard waste occurs on residents' regular solid waste collection day during specified times of the year. The City's solid waste contractor, Waste Management, operates the program. The weekly collection of yard waste will end Sunday (November 30).

Yard waste is collected on a monthly basis in December, January and February. The collection dates during the winter months are December 8th to 12th, January 12th to 16th and February 9th to 13th. Residents may not use plastic trash bags for yard waste because the bags don't degrade in compost piles. Residents should use paper yard waste bags, empty trash containers or bundle yard waste in bundles less than 5' in length and 50 pounds in weight.

The weekly collection of yard waste will resume on Monday, March 2, 2009. City officials remind residents to put yard waste, refuse and recyclables in three separate piles to make it easier for the solid waste collection crew.
