Train Expo This Weekend in Southern Illinois
It's billed as one of the largest model train shows in the Midwest. The Great Train Expo pulls into the Gateway Center in Collinsville Saturday and Sunday.

Show manager Bill Grove says model railroading is still popular with old and young alike, but it can be tough getting the younger generation to trade their X-Box controller for an engineer's cap.

"Somewhere around 8 or 9 until they get to the point where they have kids themselves, you sort of have a chance to lose people," Gove said. "We run shows all over in an effort to get kids out and show them there's a lot for you to do here."

Grove says model railroading has grown over the years. The hobby has gone "high tech" with the ability to control more than one train at a time on a single track. While there have been advancements, Grove says many still opt for the traditional Lionel single track, single control model.

More information on the show can be found at www.greattrainexpo.com.
