County Clerk Employee Promoted to Recorder, Library Referendum Fails
A current Knox County employee will stay employed with the county, but in a different job.

The closest race of the election was for Knox County Recorder, which was won by Democrat Paula Monzo by less than 200 votes over Republican Carol Hallam. Monzo received nearly 54 percent of the votes cast in the race in Galesburg, while Hallam had the majority of Knox County's votes. Monzo won the total vote 11,414 to 11,261.

Monzo is currently the tax extension officer for Knox County, while Hallam has worked in the recorder's office for many years.

Voters also said no to a proposed property tax levy increase for Abingdon's John Mosser Public Library. The 25 to 35 cent levy increase failed 702 to 583.
