Officials Pleased With Voter Turnout
When at the polls on Tuesday, you may have noticed many types of voters who showed up -- that is unless you were among the 3-thousand who voted early in the city of Galesburg.

Galesburg election commissioner Bill Butts said good weather coupled with people ready to take a different approach in politics were a couple reasons for the high voter turnout. Butts says there were no major problems or glitches in the voting system. City election officials say voter turnout in Galesburg was a little over 71 percent.

Butts tells WGIL there were a lot of first-time voters. "I think there's something to be said that we attracted a lot more voters -- different types of voters this time -- that we haven't seen in a long time," Butts said. "People attempting to vote that actually have not voted in some time, and I think that's indicative of probably the national mood."

Knox County Clerk Scott Erickson says voter turnout in the county outside the City of Galesburg was 67 percent , and nearly 1,000 people took advantage of the early voting option. Both election representatives were happy with the turnouts and indicated that this was the first year early voting was used during a general election.
