Failure to Wear Seatbelt Results in Felony Drug Charges
A Galesburg man is facing a pair of drug related preliminary charges and traffic counts following his arrest Wednesday afternoon.

Galesburg police reports say an officer on patrol around 4:40 pm in the area of Day and Berrien Streets spotted a vehicle that was northbound on Day and turned in front of the officer with the driver not wearing a seatbelt. The report says the driver parked the vehicle at a residence in the 700 block of East Berrien, got out of the car and started walking.

The officer reportedly tried to get the attention of the man walking, who then took off running. Police caught up with the man, identified as 21-year old Jimmy Mackey, after a foot chase. Police say Mackey had 220 grams of suspected marijuana on him and $445 cash. Police say Mackey indicated he was holding the drugs for a friend.

Authorities arrested him on counts of possession of between 30 and 500 grams of marijuana, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, resisting police, driving under the influence of drugs and for not wearing a seatbelt.

Mackey was taken to the Knox County Jail to be held pending an appearance in Knox County Circuit Court.
