Former Galesburg Alderwoman Fifth Candidate to Announce Mayoral Run
A former Galesburg alderwoman says now was the right time for her to get back into local politics -- and she's doing it by running for mayor.

Margaret Hall is currently circulating petitions in order to run for Mayor. The resident since 1972 who co-owns a painting business with her husband, served two terms on the City Council, departing in 2001.

Hall tells WGIL city government is just, in her words, "spinning its wheels" right now, and feels she can help change that. "I think Galesburg has so much potential," Hall said. "Even though there are wonderful people running, I just think my experience and my willingness with the other (city and county) entities, working especially with the colleges, makes me a good candidate."

Hall says she wants to do something if elected the city, so far, hasn't done -- build on a telecommunications infrastructure, believing that will help bring more businesses to town, and she says she'd also like to see more done with wind energy.

Hall will be running against incumbent Gary Smith in April, along with state economic development official Sal Garza, fifth ward alderwoman Karen Lafferty, and local businessman Nathan Rockhold.
