Auctioneers in Springfield This Weekend
The Illinois State Auctioneers Association returns to Springfield this weekend for their annual conference and show.

Cory Craig, past president, Illinois State Auctioneers Association, says the highlight of the event will be the induction of a member into the Illinois Auctioneer Hall of Fame.

"The person they pick for that is a lifelong member of the ISAA and somebody that has conducted a lot of sales and really put their heart into the association and also their community," Craig said.

The 38-year-old Edinburg resident says there's more to being an auctioneer than bid calling. He says knowledge of what’s being auctioned is a must. Craig adds that not all bid callers talk fast.

There's guys out there that bidcall fast, there’s guys out there that bidcall slow. It's not all about fast talking," Craig said. "There’s product knowledge in this business. You really need to know what you're selling when you're conducting an auction. It's not all about getting up there and seeing who can talk the fastest."

The weekend conference and show also includes bid calling contests, the Golden Gavel Annual Awards Banquet honoring auctioneers in business for more than 50 years and the second annual Illinois State Ringman Contest.

The ISAA has been serving professional auctioneers for more than 50 years.
