District 205 School Board to Talk Tax Levy
Property tax bills in Galesburg could end up being not such a bad thing when bills come out next year.

The Galesburg School Board Monday night is expected to consider its property tax levy for the 2008 calendar year.

District officials say the property tax levy they'll discuss is below the 105 percent of the 2007 levy, so no truth in taxation hearing will need to be held.

It's believed the district, despite property values continuing to increase, will ask for less money than the year before.

The City of Galesburg is also proposing a levy lower than last year, that will be acted on at the City Council meeting a week from tonight.

Also Monday night, the Galesburg School Board will hear about the new year of the "Reading at the Crossroads" program. You can hear students discussing the books they're reading in the program this year online at www.wgil.com.

The Galesburg School Board meets at 7:00 in their board room at the former Lincoln School building on Harrison Street.
