Boland Continues Call to Allow for Gov Recall, Term Limits, Despite Con Con Failure; DOWNLOAD AUDIO HERE
An attempt to get Illinois voters to approve the holding a Constitutional Convention failed, so an Illinois lawmaker says he will try what he admits is a Plan B in order to give voters the option of recalling the Governor.

State Representative Mike Boland was in Galesburg Monday afternoon where he announced he would introduce legislation allowing for amendments to the State Constitution that will allow for a recall question to be placed on a general election ballot, and for a two-term limit for any governor.

Boland admits the way he sees it, the Constitutional Convention question at last Tuesday's was almost destined to fail. "Obviously it got tied up in the opposition, multi-million dollar T.V. ads with former Governor Edgar leading the charge, and Governor Blagojevich against it, on and on and on," Boland said.

The East Moline Democrat says his proposals would allow for the Lieutenant Governor to replace the Governor if he's recalled. He says 18 other states allow for recalls, and 37 other states have term limits on Governors.

Boland also told reporters he believes Belleville State Senator James Clayborne has the inside track to becoming the next Illinois Senate President following Emil Jones' retirement, and that he believes Governor Rod Blagojevich will appoint Jones to replace Presdent-elect Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate -- if, Boland says, Blagojevich doesn't appoint himself.
