Flu Shot Clinics Winding Down in Warren County
They began late last month, and health officials in Warren County say there are still a couple more flu shot clinics being offered this month.

One of the clinics is Wednesday from 9 to 11 a-m at the Friendship Center in Roseville. The last one will be November 19 from 10 a-m to Noon at the Kirkwood Village Center. Flu shots in Warren County cost $25. Pneumonia shots are also available for $45.

Warren County Health Department Administrator Jenna Link tells WGIL if you want a flu shot and can't make it to one of the two remaining clinics, the department will work with you.

"If our nurse is out at one of our clinics, then we won't have the walk-ins here at the office (health department), but they can call ahead anytime before they want to walk in and get a shot, we can do that."

The phone number is 734-1314.

Link says people with Medicare Part B or Medicaid must bring their insurance card with them when they get shots so the health department can bill Medicare.

Certain groups of people are especially urged to get a flu shot. They include people age 65 and older, children or adults---including pregnant women---who have had serious long-term health problems and in the past year had to see a physician regularly or were admitted to a hospital, and anyone who has close contact with people who are at risk of getting a serious case of the flu. That includes health care workers, home care workers and nursing home personnel.

The Center for Disease Control has increased its recommendations beginning with the current flu seasons by saying that all children between the ages of 5 and 18 should get a flu shot each fall. Link says now is a good time to get the shot, and the immune response is typically four or five months.

The Knox County Health Department is also offering flu shots on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday from 9 a-m to 4 p-m. The shot costs $30 dollars in Knox County---and Medicaid or Medicare Part B recipients may receive the shot at no cost.
