| FIRST ON WGIL: H1N1 Clinics to be Held Saturday at Several Knox County Sites -- FULL DETAILS HERE |
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 11/5/09 Knox County residents will not be the only ones who can benefit from one of the five locations where the Knox County Health Department will be holding a clinic to offer the H1N1 vaccine this weekend.
Health Department spokesperson Michele Fishburn says anyone who meets the criteria in a priority group by the Center for Disease Control will be able to receive either the H1N1 vaccine in the injectable form or the mist form.
The Knox County Health Department announced Thursday, in cooperation with local health care partners, they will be conducting H1N1 vaccination clinics this Saturday from 9am to noon at various points throughout the county.
Fishburn tells WGIL she anticipates many people taking advantage of the clinics in order to receive the vaccine. "Initially, when we received a small amount of injectible (H1N1 vaccine), we held two evening clinics here at the health department," Fishburn said. "There was a fairly large turnout and there was a lot of demand for the vaccine. So, we're looking to have a good turnout (at the new clinics)."
The five clinics, according to Fishburn, will be held in one of each of the five school districts, which provides the greatest amount of access for all county residents. The clinics will be held at Hedding Grade School, Mabel Woolsey Elementary School, ROWVA High School, Williamsfield School and at the Knox County Health Department.
Priority groups include pregnant women, caregivers for those under six months old, healthcare and emergency personnel, children six months to 18 years old, young adults 19 to 24 and people who are 25 to 64 who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from the flu.
