Galva Woman Files to Run for 74th District State Representative
POSTED 9:27 a-m, UPDATED 10:06 a-m 11/2/09 A woman who spent many years in education is taking a shot at politics.

Galva resident Elizabeth Double says she's filed petitions with the Illinois State Board of Elections to run as a Democrat for state representative in the 74th District. Monday is the last day to file, and Double has no opposition on the Democratic ticket. Incumbent Republican Don Moffitt has filed to run for another term in next year's general election. Moffitt has held his House seat since 1993.

The 44-year old Double says she has 15 years experience as an educator and five years in business management and is running - in part - because no-one has challenged Moffitt the last two election cycles. She says unemployment and school drop-out rates have both climbed in the 74th District in the last 10 years, and residents in the district need and deserve a choice.

Double says the challenges facing the district include a shortage of jobs, access to quality education and opportunities for working families. She also says the state funding formulas for schools are unbalanced, and she'd put forth alternative solutions for school funding if she's elected. Double holds a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Illinois.

Another local lawmaker, 37th District State Senator Dale Risinger, a Republican, has no opposition in his re-election bid.

The 74th House District is comprised of all of Knox and Stark counties and approximately half of Henry and Bureau counties.
