Galesburg School District Tax Levy Presentation Monday Night
Now that the budget is in place for the current school year in the Galesburg School District, the school board will learn there how much money they will need from homeowners.

The Galesburg School Board Monday night will be presented with the annual property tax levy request for taxes paid next year.

The tentative levy request being presented says the district will be asking for $16.3 million dollars this year -- up roughly $800,000 from last year.

It's a quarter of a percent under the 105% threshold that would require a Truth in Taxation Hearing.

The district says it is basing the levy on property values this year increasing a third of a percent over last year, to over $384-million.

They say the levy increase would result in a $60 annual increase on the property tax bill of a home valued at $100,000.

District 205 covers parts of Knox and Warren Counties, and represents the largest piece of the property tax levy pie for homeowners in the City of Galesburg.

The Galesburg School Board meets at 7 p-m Monday inside their board room at Lincoln School.
