Work to Begin Next Year on Second Galesburg Facade Renovation Project
The money is in place, but a downtown Galesburg business owner says he will probably wait until after the first of the year before he starts work on a project he says he's wanted to do for a long time.

The Galesburg City Council last month approved providing Dave Plunk, owner of Music Makers on East Main Street, the city's second Facade Renovation Grant, and a revolving loan that will also help pay for some of the work.

Plunk tells WGIL he plans on making improvements that go well beyond just improving the facade of the front of his building. "(We plan to) tear down all the old windows and rebuild new windows," Plunk said. "We're going to replace all the windows in the second and third floors, and we're going to do a lot of masonry work -- a lot of tuckpointing, a new sign, a new awning. It's going to modernize the building a lot."

Plunk says he hopes the building will become more energy efficient, as right now it can get pretty cold in the winter. He says the building hasn't had a major renovation since 1964, and the work should also lead to an expanded showroom and display area when it happens.

Work is expected to begin in January. Meantime, work is almost complete on the first building to get a city-backed facade renovation grant -- the former Radio Village Mall, now known as the Weaver Main Street Center.
