Quinn Comments on GOP Opponent's Apology
Gov. Pat Quinn says he respects Republican Jim Ryan for apologizing for his role in prosecuting the wrong men in a high-profile murder case.

Quinn said the right thing to do when you make a mistake is to sincerely apologize.

The Democratic governor says the prosecution of two men who were eventually cleared in the 1983 rape and murder of Jeanine Nicarico was "very wrong."

Ryan is one of seven Republicans running for governor. He apologized Thursday for repeatedly prosecuting two men who turned out to be innocent. He was DuPage County state's attorney at the time. Ryan's apology came a day after a jury in DuPage County decided that the real killer should be executed for the crime.

Ryan says if he is elected governor, he will not lift the moratorium on executions established by then-Gov. George Ryan in 2000, and maintained by the next two governors.
