SIU Names New Carbondale Chancellor
A woman with financial expertise and academic experience will head Southern Illinois University Carbondale beginning next year.

Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard has chosen Dr. Rita Cheng as the new SIUC chancellor.

Cheng says she'll use a "two pillar" system to help boost enrollment and retention while also growing the research opportunities on the university's flagship campus.

Cheng is currently provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is a certified public accountant in addition to holding several other degrees in management and finance.

Cheng will start June 1, 2010, but says she will visit the campus at least once a month for several days between now and then.

Poshard's choice will have to be approved by the Board of Trustees at its December meeting.
