Mud Slinging Brought Up in Quinn, Hynes Debate
Some of the political campaign advertisements you may have seen on TV not only offend those who support a candidate, but also offend candidates themselves.

The question of mud slinging and distasteful ads was brought up during a debate between State Comptroller Dan Hynes and Gov. Pat Quinn, both candidates in the Democratic primary for governor.

Quinn says ads being run by Hynes are demonizing him. "Eighty-five percent of his ads are attack ads, negative ads that try to demonize the income tax of Illinois that's based on ability to pay," Quinn said. "It tries to demonize me. I don't think that’s the right way to go."

While Hynes feels one of Quinn's ads, which claims Hynes was too busy at a spa to attend budget talks in Springfield , was distasteful and not on-topic.

"My opponent's ad talks about a family trip I took around the Fourth of July, the fact that I flew to Washington D.C. to meet with President Obama and a haircut," Hynes said. "I believe that people want to talk about issues and I think the central issue is the budget crisis and people want to know how we’re going to get out of it."
