No Surprise: October Officially Rainy
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- This year Illinois saw its second wettest October since 1895.

Statistics released Monday by the Illinois State Water Survey show the statewide average rainfall was 8.9 inches, 6 inches above normal. The wettest October was in 1941 when the state saw 9.2 inches of rain.

According to the state water survey, rain was heaviest in southern Illinois and the cities of Decatur and Bloomington/Normal set records. The average temperature in Illinois during October was 49.8 degrees, 4.8 degrees below normal.

The coldest spot in the state during October was at Elizabeth in Jo Daviess County in far northwestern Illinois, where the low hit 23 degrees. The water survey reports Rockford reported only one sunny day in October and Chicago reported two.
