Quinn Expects Action "Rather Quickly" on Thomson
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn expects action "rather quickly" on a proposal to sell a state prison in northwestern Illinois to the federal government to house Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Last week, federal officials toured the Thomson Correctional Center, and they visited again over the weekend.

Thomson is the latest location to be considered as the Obama administration looks for a place to relocate the detainees. President Barack Obama wants to close the military-run detention center in Cuba.

Quinn is pushing hard for the federal government to take over the Thomson facility, promising that it will help create jobs in a struggling area.

Critics, including Republican members of Congress, say the plan is too risky. They're demanding to know more details about any potential deal.

Quinn says he expects a vote in Congress could come by the end of the year.
