Diet Group Analyzes Veggie Turkey Options
CHICAGO (AP) -- Just in time for Thanksgiving, the American Dietetic Association has some advice on turkey alternatives for vegetarians.

The bottom line is, watch the salt content and read the label, because some varieties may contain animal products such as milk or eggs.

Surveys suggest about 3 percent of adults and at least 1 in 200 kids are vegetarian nationwide. That includes vegans, who shun all animal products.

A dietetic association chart shows six meatless holiday roast products are low in saturated fat and high in protein and fiber. But some are high in salt, much higher than real turkey.

For details, check the association Web site at http://www.eatright.org.
