Group: Health Care Reform = Lost Jobs
An analysis by a libertarian think tank claims health care reform will cost jobs in Illinois.

The Illinois Policy Institute says the toll could be 169,000 jobs over 10 years, says director John Tillman. Such a loss would push Illinois' unemployment rate, now 11 percent, to 13 percent.

Tillman blames the potential economic impact on the taxes associated with the program -- about $440 per person per year.

U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Wheaton) endorses the report, and criticizes the health care measure. "Without question it's a bill that moved out of the House in a damaged fashion, and based on the perception, particularly in the jobs context, we're up for a robust debate for these next couple of months," he said.

Supporters of health care reform say we already spend a lot on health insurance, and it should be no surprise to see the cost go up if 47 million more people are covered.
