City Council to Consider Agency Funding
The Galesburg City Council will officially put together one of the final pieces to the puzzle that is the city's budget at a special meeting Monday afternoon.

The council will hold a work session regarding how much funding the city should provide to external agencies that request it.

Roughly $100,000 is being asked for from various agencies, but the city has, for now, budgeted about half of that.

City Manager Dane Bragg recently told aldermen there are essentially three options for the various funding requests.

"The first one would be a total of $50,675 - that would be basically a $3,000 cap per organization requesting funds. The second option would be to fund at the 2009 level so essentially we would fund those organizations that we have funded in the past and that would total $45,475."

Bragg says there's also a third option -- fund organizations as they have been in the past, and give $1,000 to any new requesting organization.

There are a number of organizations that, under any scenario, would get more money than others -- like Railroad Days and the 4th of July Fireworks.

Aldermen will debate the issue at noon Monday in the Erickson Conference Room at City Hall.
