Energy Savings Come in More Ways Than One
(Illinois Radio Network)-Gas companies are offering rebates to customers who buy energy efficient appliances.

The exact programs are different among Ameren, Nicor and People's Energy, but essentially, if you replace an old energy hog with a new unit, you'll save money and get a rebate. Nicor, based in Naperville, is the latest to add a program, applicable to furnaces, boilers and hot water heaters.

The Nicor program, with rebates ranging from $100 to $400, is funded by a surcharge of 9 cents a month for all customers. The company has issued $1 million in rebates since May.
