Galesburg High School is on the Air
Galesburg High School students are now officially getting a crack at being radio personalities.

The High School now has its own internet radio station, programmed and put together by Business Teacher and former radio D-J Russ Ullrich, who says it's been something he's been trying to work toward for the past year and is now finally a reality.

Ullrich, also president of the Galesburg Education Association, tells WGIL District-205 administrators had to give their blessing before the station could go live...

"We had to communicate with the school district to make sure that everybody was on board with the idea and to assure them that everything that we put on the air would be prerecorded, nothing is being done live, that way nothing inappropriate or not approved by the school district would make it on to our station."

Ullrich says the station is streaming primarily Top 40 music, with students getting the chance to record their own shows, but will also include news features and other items through Brad Bennewitz' journalism classes.

He says there will be a struggle. With equipment and music licensing fees, he says running the station will be costly, and he's not sure the district will support the effort past this school year.

A link to the station can be found on the website of the "GHS Budget" newspaper at www.ghsbudget.com.
