State Lawmaker Calls for Hearing about Late Military Ballots
(IRN)-Don't count on people forgetting about those overseas military absentee ballots which were mailed out late. State Representative Dan Brady says he wants a legislative hearing this month into what happened and how to stop it from happening again.

Brady says he has asked the chairman of the House Elections and Campaign Reform Committee, State Representative Elaine Nekritz, to convene a hearing, possibly during the fall veto session, which begins November 16.

"Over 13,000 ballots were properly mailed when they were supposed to," says Brady. "There are, though, 32 counties and three municipal board election jurisdictions that were not in compliance, and that has some 2,800 ballots that were not properly mailed out when they were supposed to be, and that date for counting them, and mailing them back in, has been extended."

Brady is not suggesting foul play. In the most notable case, in Saint Clair County, home to Scott Air Force Base, the county clerk missed the deadline because he was awaiting a court ruling on whether the Constitution Party candidates would be included on ballots.
