Health Officials to Get Information on Prevention
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois officials are seeking input on prevention of disease at three public hearings.

The Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Task force will gather information to develop recommendations on how health promotion and disease prevention programs are paid for and provided to communities.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says chronic diseases account for seven in 10 deaths and affect quality of life of 6.7 million people -- more than half the state's residents.

Research shows Illinois spends more than $12.5 billion annually in treating chronic diseases and suffers $43.6 billion in lower productivity.

The hearings will be Monday in Chicago, Nov. 22 in Springfield and Nov. 30 in Mount Vernon.
