VFW Leader: Vietnam Veterans Deserve Special Thanks
A short service to a full room was one of the many celebrations happening Thursday for Veterans Day.

The VFW post in Galesburg held a service to honor those who have fought for freedom for this country.

Post Commander Gerald Wright, however, said some veterans did not receive the recognition they deserved.

"It seems like Vietnam veterans came home to a little bit different era," Wright said. "They came home to busy towns and communities that hardly knew they were gone. This was wrong, almost unforgiving. Thank you for your service, Vietnam veterans, and welcome home. We can't undo these wrongs, or I call them wrongs. However, we must pull together as we strive to make sure it does not happen again."

Wright adds that all veterans deserve honor and thanks, no matter where or when they served.

A free will donation lunch followed the ceremony for all veterans and their families, provided by the ladies' auxiliary.
