Durbin Happy to Have More High-Speed Rail Money
(IRN) -- Incoming governors of Ohio and Wisconsin are not as high on high-speed rail as Illinois leaders are. U. S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says states receiving money for high-speed rail can use it only for that purpose.

As a result, U. S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) hopes Illinois can apply for that money. Durbin says with a state infrastructure package -- and plans to make the Chicago-St Louis corridor a high-speed route, as well as build two passenger routes from Chicago to Iowa -- Illinois will find plenty of use for extra money.

Durbin spoke to reporters in Springfield Friday afternoon after visiting a government class at Southeast High School.
