Summer Flooding in IL Big Disaster for FEMA
(IRN) -- With the tornadoes and snowstorms Illinois' had, it was neither which has become the largest disaster in Midwest history.

The severe rain and flooding between July 19 and August 7 in Illinois has totaled more than 140,000 requests for assistance and almost $310 million in payouts. Greg Eaton, the federal coordinating officer for this particular disaster, says that is largely because Cook County is so populous -- accounting for all but about $14 million of the money.

Other Illinois counties affected were Carroll, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson, and Winnebago.

The deadline to apply for money is Wednesday, Nov. 17. You can go to www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362
