Misconduct Charges Dropped Against 2 Peoria Police Officers
PEORIA, Ill. (AP) -- Charges have been dropped against two Peoria police officers accused of misconduct for the videotaped beating and shocking of a man with a stun gun in 2008.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that 40-year-old Gerald Suelter and 33-year-old Jeremy Layman arrived in court for a conference Friday and were told the charges were dismissed.

Last week, a jury acquitted a third officer, 31-year-old Andrew Smith, of the May 3, 2008, beating of Bryce Scott.

Scott's traffic stop was videotaped by a squad car camera. It showed him being kicked, punched and shocked by a stun gun. The tape didn't show what Scott was doing.

Prosecutors argued he was compliant and that officers didn't need to use force.

The officers have been on unpaid leave but could soon return to work.
