A November Surprise: Gas Prices Increasing
Gas prices across the state and even in Galesburg are continuing some upward movement.

The AAA Chicago Motor Club says their monthly Fuel Gague Report has unleaded costing an average of $3.02 a gallon statewide, up 10 cents from last month, and up 28 cents over this time last year.

Galesburg-area prices are once again close to the $3 a gallon mark.

While we may be used to the price of gas being this high, AAA spokesperson Beth Mosher says it isn't normally this way.

"Typically, we're in a kind of downward trend this time of year," Mosher said. "It's not the case this year."

Mosher says, however, it's not causing panic among drivers -- at least, not yet.

"We really don't see people change their driving habits until gas hits $4. So, we're well under that, and we'll remain well under that," Mosher said. "This is just a little annoying for people."

A small refinery fire in the Chicago area recently causing some supply issues, and a lower U.S. dollar causing imported oil to be more expensive, are being attributed to the price increase.
