District 205 Working on Mandated Improvement Plan
The Galesburg School District is working on something it hoped it wouldn't have to do, but was essentially left with no choice under the Federal No Child Left Behind Act.

The District must file an improvement plan with the state, after the district as a whole did not make Adequate Yearly Progress under the Federal No Child Left Behind act, though most individual schools did.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Joel Estes, says in terms of the plan itself, the district is well on its way to making the improvements needed.

"We really feel like, on many of the indicators that we were forced to review, that we are well on our way to achieving them," Estes said. "We will continue to assess where we're at, and we will report back to the [Galesburg School] Board frequently on our progress towards meeting our goals."

Among them is identifying opportunities for early intervention with students who may not be doing well, making data regarding those students available to teachers, and improving technology for data management.

Estes says in many areas, though, he still believes the district is still "exemplary" for how it teaches its students.
