Struggling IL has First Post-Blagojevich Election
CHICAGO (AP) -- Cash strapped Illinois is electing its first governor since Democrat Rod Blagojevich was thrown out of office nearly two years ago.

Governor Pat Quinn is trying for a full term after taking over from his former boss. But the race is tight with recent polls showing the Chicago Democrat trailing Republican state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington.

Whoever prevails will have to deal with a state budget deficit that could top $15 billion. Quinn and Brady have offered far different options for doing so.

Quinn wants to raise the income tax to generate more money for education. Brady flatly rejects raising taxes and has suggested tax breaks to help the state's economy.

The Green Party's Rich Whitney, independent Scott Lee Cohen and Libertarian Lex Green also are running.
