External Agencies Ask for Galesburg City Funding
Members of the Galesburg City Council last night heard from a number of agencies and organizations last night.

During a special budget work session, external agencies, or groups the city gives assisted funding to, made presentations for funding next year.

One group, however, will not be getting the funding amount they requested nor the amount city staff proposed.

Staff had proposed giving the Jaycees $7,500 for the fireworks display, but city council cut that down to $5,000 due to a lack of representation for the second year in a row.

"This is a large expenditure, I think it is common courtesy to at least make a presentation, a phone call, or even a written letter when you are asking for this amount of money. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against a fourth of July celebration, but this is another I feel a brazen snub of council and of the tax payers money."

7th Ward Alderman Mike Lummis made the same accusation last year. WGIL puts on the annual "Big Bang Boom" fireworks display with the Jaycees, and station management explained the funding to Lummis last year.

Behind the Neighborhood Enhancement program, the fireworks is the largest expenditure to external agencies.

That program, however, was also cut from $10,000 down to $7500 dollars.
