Water Bill Deposits Increase in Knoxville
It might be a little harder for some residents in Knoxville to get water service, but the city's Mayor says it's for good reason.

The Knoxville City Council voted Monday night to increase a deposit implemented from $75 to $100, that Mayor Terry Pool tells WGIL is assessed on some residents if they may be at risk of not paying up.

"If they've been delinquent, or they haven't paid, we can charge them more of a deposit," Pool said. "We're getting several people that have been excessively delinquent, or haven't paid their bill for awhile."

Pool tells WGIL the deposit applies to two types of water customers.

"It's for new services and also for existing services," Pool said.

The Knoxville City Council last night also voted for a $4.5 million dollar property tax levy in 2011, and approved the hiring of three part-time police officers and one part-time library employee.

Pool also announced that First Ward Alderman Lester Naslund resigned after moving out of the ward, and that a replacement to fill the remaining several months of his term could come as soon as next month.
