Sporting Goods Store to Occupy Former Henderson Street Grocery Store
FIRST REPORTED 6:20am 11/16/10 Everyone was interested to know just what company was planning to open a store in the old Eagle building on Henderson Street in Galesburg.

During Monday night's city council meeting, Marty Graff provided the answer.

"It's Dunham Sports," Graff said. "They're a chain of sporting goods stores. They're headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They own over 150 sporting goods stores. They have a good reputation. Their stores are very attractive and they are full-service sporting goods stores."

Graff is a partner in Galesburg Centre LLC, and the city council approved a revolving loan of up to $225,000 Monday night to make building improvements.

The company owns the building and will be renting 30,000 square feet of space to Dunham's.

The council approved the loan unanimously and heard opposition from only one Galesburg resident, who said he had no problem with the company, only the process by which the loan came to happen.

The resident says secrets don't do Galesburg residents any good and people should have known what company was planned for the building long before the very night the city council was to vote on the matter.
