New Gambling Expansion Plan Up for Consideration
(IRN)-No vote, but the Illinois Senate Gaming Committee put a new gambling expansion proposal before a hearing. The plan would create five new casinos, allow slots at tracks, and try out slots at a couple of airports.

The airports would be O'Hare and Midway, with supporters saying the machines would only be in areas where passengers wait for their planes, meaning people couldn't just drive to the airport only for gambling. The new casinos would be in:

Chicago
Park City
Ford Heights
Rockford
Danville.

Opponents say the tough economy would only become worse if people gamble away their money. Proponents say it would bring the state a much needed nearly billion dollars a year, plus give a boost to the ailing horse racing industry.

Bill sponsor Senator Terry Link says minor changes to the plan could be ready for a vote today in the Senate.
