Tentative Rotary Park Plan Approved
Galesburg city council members were presented with four options Monday for potential changes to Rotary Park.

Of the four mock up drawings, not one was favored by every party involved in the project.

City staff recommended option one, neighbors of the part suggested option three with some tweaking, and Rotary club members liked the second option according to city treasurer Marvin Dalhberg.

Parking lot placement was a item of big contention and he says placing it on the south side of the park makes the most sense.

"It opens the park up so you can see what's going on and I think that, in discussion with the neighbors, would alleviate a lot of activities that we don't want in our parks. Number three, we've got a walking trail that's all around, the more adults, if you go up Spruce or Columbus or any of those streets, you'll notice that there are no sidewalks and there's an awful lot of people who enjoy walking, including myself, for exercise."

City council members voted in favor of option two by a five to three margin. The difference among all options was cost based of placement of new attractions.

The Galesburg Rotary Club hopes to pay for new upgrades to the park like restrooms, a rain garden, jogging trail, water park, and ice skating rink to celebrate their one hundredth anniversary in 2014.
