Action, Or Lack Thereof, in Week 1 of Fall Veto Session
(IRN) -- Major decisions may have to wait until January. State lawmakers have completed their first week of the Veto Session, and took no votes on major legislation on pension borrowing, expanded gambling, civil unions and medical marijuana.

Many lawmakers say they didn’t expect quick action, largely because in January, it'll take fewer votes to pass bills, which means less reliance on Republicans to push bills over the edge. But State Rep. Al Riley (D-Olympia Fields) says it's not a delay tactic. Rather, he says the big bills "aren't soup yet." He says negotiations are just beginning now the legislative is officially in veto session.

State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream), however, says it's a shame that lawmakers haven't taking any tough votes. He says he doesn't expect much action until January.

Lawmakers have a week off, and return the week after Thanksgiving for the second week of the Veto Session.
