Bartlett Neighbors Befriend, Feed Wild Turkey
BARTLETT, Ill. (AP) -- Residents of a cul-de-sac in north west suburban Chicago have befriended a wild turkey named Lucie.

The Chicago Tribune reports Lucie the turkey roosts 25-feet up a tree near Suzanne LaPlante's front yard in Bartlett. LaPlante says neighbors try to protect the bird and she calls the turkey "a good friend." The turkey has been in the area since April 2009.

Linda Parato says she buys 10 pounds of wild bird seed every month for Lucie. The turkey taps on windows when she wants food and firefighters feed her bread. Lucie even has a Facebook page with nearly 800 members.

State wildlife biologist Bob Massey says hunting and habitat loss meant the end of wild turkeys in Illinois by 1900. Restoration efforts provided a comeback in the 1950s.
